05 Feb Guest Blog Post: What Innovation Means
Mirka Moore, fitness and health blogger and member of the Product of the Year blogger panel, tells us what innovation means to her.
As a fitness and health-oriented blogger, working on Fitness 4 Mamas, as well as a keen runner, I am always on the lookout for the latest products that could make my life better, healthier and more fun.
I have been part of the Product of the Year awards for the past few years and attending the jury day every September means I have had the chance to discover a number of new, innovative products from various industry sectors – something I love!
Not only do I often find products and brands I normally wouldn’t, but I also enjoy picking my personal favourites. Then I anxiously wait for the Awards Night in January to see which products won. This year I am part of the brand new Product of the Year Blogger Panel, so I’ve been trying out the 2019 winners and I’m looking forward to giving my verdict on the chosen products very soon.
Last year I noticed a huge shift towards vegan products and as brands became more aware of the trend and it’s been interesting to see vegan versions of people’s favourites come to market. I’ve already spotted a few vegan winners of the 2019 awards, including Kelloggs W.K. Range which I can’t wait to try for breakfast!
As a keen runner, I’ve also spotted many changes in the fitness industry. When I started running many, many years ago, I had a pair of trainers (not running trainers), cotton socks, a t-shirt and some tracksuit bottoms. These days I cannot imagine life without my GPS running watch, wireless headphones, specially designed running socks, and technical clothing, proving technology is innovating to improve our everyday lives.
Innovation is vital as our lives get busier, and social media plays a huge part in it. When I started blogging nearly 10 years ago, not many people were using social media platforms. Look at it these days. We all are on it, and some of us probably too much.
To me, social media is a great example to show how innovation is important and how it changes our everyday lives. Most brands are aware of the power and use it to showcase new ideas and product developments, helping make our shopping experiences easier.
Innovation is paramount in all industry sectors, from food and drink to household and beauty. And why not? It’s all about making our lives better. Would you agree?
