For some, lockdown has been a sedentary time with little opportunity or incentive to exercise. And despite the many enthusiastic fitness gurus encouraging us remotely, (step forward Joe Wicks) the comfort of comfort foods can be, well, hard to resist.
For others however, this period of enforced isolation has provided an opportunity to focus on health, the way we live and the changes we can all make as we negotiate a changing world. Getting fit, keeping fit, making sure our immune systems are prepped and primed and eating the good stuff. A focus that, according to the Grocer, has seen online bulk sales of healthy snacking brands soar.
And according to a new consumer study by the National Lottery the pandemic has radically changed our behaviours – our hopes and ambitions and our general outlook on life and the things that really matter. 35% of the people surveyed stated that leading a healthier life was a motivating factor with 42% aiming to reduce stress levels. It would seem that we are now wanting the simpler things in life – with crafting, baking, gardening and all-round healthy living high on the agenda for much of the nation as we begin to embrace a ‘new normal’.
