More Tea Vicar?

More Tea Vicar?

Us Brits love a cuppa (165 million cups consumed daily) and we’re no stranger to a slice of cake and a fresh baked scone. So what better time to indulge a very British institution than Afternoon Tea Week? (10th – 16th August.)

Introduced by the seventh Duchess of Bedford in 1840 who would become peckish around four o’clock and would sate her appetite by snacking on cake and bread – afternoon tea was born and 180 years on it remains as popular as ever.

Every year the Queen hosts up to 30,000 people at her world-famous tea parties; ‘Tea at the Ritz’ remain a perennial hot ticket and the quintessential London treat and home baking has boomed in lockdown with millions of bakers across the country honing their skills to produce the ultimate teatime treats – with not a soggy bottom in sight!

It will probably come as no surprise that over the last 17 years of Product of the Year – cakes, bread, tea and spreads have figured highly with many top products walking away with the coveted Product of the Year trophy and the right to use the iconic red logo.

This year the delicious Cadbury Dairy Milk slices range; the brilliant Lurpak Butterbox and the super tasty Mr Kipling Reduced Sugar Slices all wowed the judges and bagged a 2020 Product of the Year trophy. And last year Cadbury triumphed again with their heroic Heroes Cupcakes and were celebrating alongside Fuze Iced Tea and Clover Light.

And in 2018 we celebrated some perfect products for the perfect afternoon tea: Arla Organic Free-Range Milk; Asda Dairy Free Sunflower Spread; Paul Hollywood Brownie Baking Mix; Flora Buttery and a range of Yorkshire Tea Speciality Brews were all crowned Product of the Year winners.

With Product of the Year 2021 now open for entries – we’re looking forward to seeing the winners of the future.
