21 Oct #CleanCleaning
Over the past few months our sense of ‘normal’ has been turned on its head – forcing us to reflect and review the way we live and the choices we make. And whilst it’s been tough going there have been some positive shifts: a greater focus on both our physical and mental wellbeing; a change in the food we eat with a move towards plant-based products and a significant positive gear change in seeking out products that are kinder to us and to the planet (Enter Dettol #TriggerAChange).
As the UK’s biggest survey of product innovation we celebrate and provide a platform for the year’s most innovative new products on the market. We track trends and behavioural shifts and we are continuing to see consumers making domestic changes to make their households more environmentally friendly – with a swathe of impressive products stepping up to meet the need.
This year two outstanding ‘cleaner’ cleaning products picked up Product of the Year awards for products that stood out for all the right reasons. Cif’s ecorefill range impressed the judges with its single purchase spray bottle made with 75% less plastic and its 100% recyclable credentials and the cruelty-free, vegan oven cleaner from Astonish was praised for being tough on dirt but gentle on you and your family.
So which eco-friendly cleaning products could potentially sweep the red carpet and clean up at the 2021 Product of the Year awards? The following are just a handful of brilliant brands and products that are playing their part in the #CleanCleaning revolution:
KINN Living, a mother and daughter founded and run company, produce a range of natural plant-based cleaning products that are free from animal testing and contain natural antibacterial properties such as rosemary oil.
The ECOEGG is a laundry egg that instead of regular laundry liquid or tabs uses natural mineral pellets – which last for about 70 washes. They contain no harmful chemicals (including no palm oil, sodium lauryl ether sulfate, parabens, petrochemicals, enzymes or phosphates), have been approved by Allergy UK and are vegan friendly. Brilliant.
OCEANSAVER is really really clever. Dissolve one of the plant-based cleaning pods (made from 100 per cent biodegradable material) into 750ml of warm water to create your own natural, eco-friendly cleaning solution. Simple and truly innovative.
BOWER COLLECTIVE are on a mission to make sustainable living simple and accessible for everyone and they have an impressive range of products that are kind to us and to the planet. We particularly like the washing up liquid that comes in a PET plastic pouch that once empty can be popped in the post to be washed and reused.
In 2012 METHOD joined forces with ECOVER to create the world’s largest green cleaning company and they have a tip top range of effective products (with all bottles made out of recycled bottles) all free of ‘dirty’ products. We particularly like the antibac bathroom cleaner that kills 99.9% of bacteria and has a great fresh minty smell.
ECOZONE is a family owned business, created by a family for families, offering a range of planet-friendly solutions to our day-to-day household problems. The entire range is impressive but we particularly like the citrus enzymatic drain cleaning sticks – proof positive that even the toughest of jobs can be solved with a product that takes care of the planet.
It’s impossible to predict which eco-products will scoop Product of the Year 2021 awards – but with the deadline for entries 31st October – the wait will soon be over.
