16 Mar Shamrock ‘n roll: Bringing St Patrick’s Day Home!
It’s a cruel twist of fate that we have to spend our second St Paddy’s Day indoors with less than a month to go untill pubs open. But that’s no reason to delay celebrations of the 1,000 year old festival of all things Irish, even if it is just in our homes. Luckily for us, there’s lots of safe, socially distanced ways to enjoy the ‘craic’ without even leaving the sofa…
Being the unofficial national drink of St Patrick’s Day, Guinness had to pull something out of the bag. Stuck at home? Then #MakeYourOwnParade, say the Dublin brewers. Teaming up with urban streetwear aficionados, Carhartt, with a range of special edition items including beers, t-shirts and hoodies sporting a golden shamrock leaf, you can now dress and drink the part. So, whether you’re dancing a jig or reclining on the sofa, you can enjoy a nice pint of everyone’s favourite Irish stout from the comfort of your own living room, safe in the knowledge you won’t have to queue to use the toilets or refill your glass.
And as you prepare your Irish supper, for which The Irish Times can provide a helping hand with their series of ‘real Irish recipes’, you might wonder what sauces are appropriate? Heritage hero and kitchen cupboard staple brand Heinz has gone green to mark the occasion with the launch of its limited edition, Shamrock mayonnaise. Made from fresh shamrock, grown in the lush fields of Co. Kerry. It’s the product we hadn’t realised we were searching for.
Supermarkets are joining in on the fun too – Aldi is offering shoppers flavours of the Emerald Isle, complete with Guinness burgers and prime Irish steak topped off with a whisky sauce. Naturally, the retailer suggests serving it with a hearty portion of mashed potatoes.
So, now you’re all set to paint the town (house) green… make sure it’s a day to remember.
