Puppy Love

Puppy Love

If I had a pound for every time someone told me how lucky they were to have a dog during lockdown (or how much they wanted one) I’d probably have enough money to buy a new coat – for my dog.

Covid and its accompanying restrictions has brought a greater appreciation of our four-legged friends with pet ownership in London doubling during the past 12 months with, according to the RSPCA, almost half of UK households (44%) now home to pets.

And as a nation of animal lovers – where there are pets there is invariably pampering.

So in celebration of National Pet Month we decided to conduct some consumer research to find out how, as a nation, we have been spoiling the furrier members of our families – with some interesting results:

  • Food has increasingly taken centre stage for most us and the same is true for our pets -with 56% of us having treated our pets to premium or gourmet foods over the last three months
  • And when not focused on culinary delights, UK pet owners are focused on fashion with 22% having bought a new item of clothing for their pet. Catwalk anyone?
  • The research also revealed that pet-tech and health foods/supplements have also become key purchases – with one-in-ten of us investing in products for our pets.

Over the years at Product of the Year we have celebrated and awarded many brilliant and innovative pet products including: Harringtons Just 6, Wagg Peanut Butter Cookie Treats  and Vanish Oxi Action Urine Destroyer Pet Expert to help with those little pet messes.

There are some great innovations on the market including Vamoosh pet hair dissolver and Licki Mat and many more.

At Product of the Year we continue to celebrate and reward many brilliant and innovative products. And with Product of the Year 2022 opening soon  its doors we are expecting the pet categories to be hotly contested.
