26 Jun Ones to Watch… Weber & The Jolly Hog: A Sizzling Summer Combo
There’s an art to a good BBQ, but most of us – bless us – don’t have the knack for it. Fortunately, there’s a world of barbi-tech that could just make those summer days by the grill a much-needed breeze. This week we’re spotlighting two launches that between them cover both ends of the grill: the kit and the feast.
Let’s start with the hardware. Weber – a.k.a. king of the kettles – has gone big for 2026. A new foray into the electric and griddle territory has been received with enthusiasm, with the phenomenal LUMIN electric BBQ, which smokes, steams, grills and warms. There’s more. Weber offers a growing suite of griddle inserts for its SPIRIT and GENESIS gas BBQs. The very sophisticated slate flat-top griddle is also something to look into, helping to make the perfect smash burgers and beef tacos in your back garden. And if that wasn’t enough, the whole lineup is now getting smart – Weber Connect Wi-Fi tech means you can monitor your cook from the sofa. Progress, people. Invite the neighbourhood – cooking for a crowd never felt so easy.
Now for what goes on the barbi (not shrimp this time). We rate The Jolly Hog – a newish brand from a pair of Bristol-based brothers, who’ve seen major success already. Last year, they saw an impressive 46% year-on-year sales growth for their bacon (bringing the bacon) and 27% in sausages. Prepare to marvel at the brand’s ‘first of its kind’ BBQ range, ready to eat in just five minutes (!), which can be found in local Tesco, Morrisons, Ocado and Sainsbury’s stores. There are four flavours to savour: Cheese & Jalapeño Hot Links, Buffalo Pork Belly, BBQ Burnt Ends and a Black Treacle Bacon Chop. These are all British, outdoor-bred, RSPCA Assured, and pre-smoked over British oak before a sous-vide finish. Nothing less for a state-of-the-art BBQ set-up. Good kit, good grub.
Two categories, two standout innovations – and one very hungry team at Product of the Year HQ. Could these be ones to watch? Oh, go on then.
