21 Sep The Rise and Rise of NOLO
As an organisation with a thirst for product innovation we thought it was time to turn our attention to the burgeoning No/Low alcohol market (NOLO).
With sales rising by 32.5% during lockdown (Nielsen) and with health-conscious millennials turning their back on alcoholic beverages the demand for NOLO drinks has never been higher and innovation in the sector is rife.
Less than 10 years ago the mere mention of a premium no-alcohol ‘spirit’ would have been met with derision – and then Seedlip happened.
Launched in 2014 by Buckinghamshire-based entrepreneur Ben Branson, Seedlip was the first distilled non-alcoholic spirit and the pioneer for a movement that now has more than 70 NOLO producers in the UK – and an industry worth £188 million and growing 23% year on year.
There is money, it would seem, in moderation.
And there is a plethora of brilliant new products on the market including :Brewdog’s 0.5% ABV range; Bacardi’s two new no-alcohol aperitivos and Martini’s non-alcoholic Vibrante. There are also a number of artisanal craft NOLO spirit brands including Pentire, Lyle’s, Everleaf and Livener that have enlivened the sector and only last month Scottish craft distillery, Old Curiosity, launched its first non-alcohol gin intriguingly called ‘The Secret Garden’.
It’s an enthralling sector seeing unprecedented growth and we’re excited to see which NOLO products will walk away with a coveted Product of the Year Award 2021.
Mocktail anyone?
