16 Aug Grocery Brands find their Groove
It’s been a turbulent few years for grocery brands as our fair nation’s shopping habits have evolved and changed with the times. According to research by Kantar, take-home grocery sales fell by 5.1% during the 12 weeks to 11 July 2021, though shoppers spent £3 billion more on groceries than they did during the same period in 2019.
At Product of the Year, we have the unique benefit of seeing a slice of the best products on the market voted for by over 10,000 consumers – and often we find it’s grocery brands that dominate the winners list. Every year, we’re impressed by the products that come through our door that show us just how vibrant this market truly is. So, we thought we’d take this opportunity to celebrate some of the most innovative grocery products out there today…
We’re a nation of cereal lovers. And if this index into the country’s that love eating cereal the most is anything to go by – us Brits love it the most. We eat 6.8kg per person! Some of us eat it just for breakfast while others (who may or may not be working from home in their PJs!) find joy in a bowl of cereal at lunch, dinner or even for dessert. Regardless of your preference – cereal brands know a thing or two about innovation. Quaker’s Oat So Simple Golden Syrup Porridge cuts down on the faff of making porridge wherever you are and is simply delicious. But for those on-the-go looking for something even speedier, cereal bars like Nature Valley’s Crunchy Oats and Honey Granola Cereal Bars and Nakd’s Almond Macaroon Bars are a nutty nutritional snack for those in a hurry. Something for the kids? Kellogg’s by Kids No Added Sugar Strawberry, Raspberry & Beetroot Oaty Bars are kind on the teeth and come in eye-catching, colourful packaging that children will love.
By lunchtime, many of us are looking for ease once again with so many other priorities in life. Cathedral City now offers its popular Cheddar Cheese range as a pre-grated product. Shaving even less time off your day. Delicious with a Serious Pig Snacking Pickle on a slice or two of Jason’s Sourdough by Geary’s Bakery and finished off with a cup of tea and some VIBs, McVitie’s biscuits.
Evening meals have been made brighter by meal kits that give consumers a taste of exotic flavours. Old El Paso has added a Smoky BBQ variant to its tortilla range. While Tastesmiths meal kits cover off all the curry staples, from Madras to Dhal and are a one-pot wonder. Ferrero Rocher’s chocolate bar trio range in white, milk and dark chocolate with hazelnuts, is a most welcome dessert treat at the end of a meal.
So, there you have it – some of our highlights from the grocery aisles! We can’t wait to see who makes the list in the next Product of the Year. Don’t forget to enter your products now before it’s too late.
