24 Jul Ones to Watch… The British Snack Co
It’s Plastic-Free July (catch our blog about it here), so we’ve decided to feature a snack brand at the forefront of sustainable packaging design as our OtW this week.
Enter ‘The British Snack Co’—crisps with a conscience.
Made using exclusively British potatoes on a renewable farm, the brand has stepped up a gear with the launch of a category-first ‘kerbside recyclable paper crisp packet’.
Is this eco-magic?
No, it’s science but it’s still pretty nifty. A clever combo of a microscopic layer of aluminium and a water-soluble material (polymer resin – for the scientists among us) combine to form a packet that is both recyclable and keeps our crisps fresher than fresh.
And when they say microscopic, they mean it. The aluminium layer in these crisp packets is 30 nanometres – for reference, a single human hair is 80,000 to 100,000nm thick.
It doesn’t stop there either. These crisps are 100% vegan and come in all the best flavours, from sweet chilli to salt & vinegar.
“Consumers have become far more savvy about what recycling and sustainability truly means, and as a result, more demanding of brands to get this right. So, in response, we’ve created the first fully recyclable crisp packet and we’re excited about bringing real change to the category” says Tom Lock, founder & CEO of The British Crisp Company.
We think this is a tip-top innovation and a true One to Watch.
